What Causes Wrinkles and Spots?
Did you know that up to 80% of the damage on an aging face can be attributed to the sun?2

There are two factors involved in the aging process:
- intrinsic aging—caused by the body’s natural progression of aging3
- extrinsic aging—caused by environmental elements, such as the sun3
The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays have been shown to speed up skin aging and cause increased risk of skin cancer. The damage the sun causes to your face is called photodamage, and the visible signs include fine and deep wrinkling, brown spots and changes in skin texture. These damaging UV rays cause the supportive collagen in the skin to break down at a faster rate than natural aging. And the effects of chronic sun exposure begin to damage the layers of the skin long before it’s visible on the surface.4
In addition to these undesirable cosmetic effects, photodamage is also associated with changes in the skin that lead to skin cancer. But, the good news is that sun exposure is the most preventable risk factor.5
